Homes of Hope, Inc.

Homes of Hope, Inc. is the oldest of the member companies of The Affordable Homes Group, Inc., but the newest member to join our organization.  Twenty-five years ago, Kent R. Pipes, the current President and CEO of The Affordable Homes Group, was one of the founding members of the organization as it emerged from concerns within the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Holly about the lack of decent, affordable housing and the decay of properties neighboring the church.  Out of a concern to be part of the solution to both unaffordable and deteriorated housing, Homes of Hope was born.  For twenty-five years Homes of Hope provided affordable rentals to lower-income households as an independent non-profit, until finally it was time to become part of a larger, professionally managed housing organization.

In September of 2005 the Board of Trustees of Homes of Hope decided to transfer control and management of its 21-unit portfolio of properties to The Affordable Homes Group, Inc.  Effective September 12th, 2005, Homes of Hope became a part of our family of non-profit companies.

Property and rental management is now provided by sister companies Delta Real Estate and The Salt & Light Company, Inc.  The 21 units operated by Homes of Hope are immediately within the service region of The Affordable Homes Group.  Ten units are located in Mt. Holly, where we operate our business as well as a number of other properties; four are in Eastampton, home of two additional AHG properties; and seven are in Roebling, immediately adjacent to a demolished 4-unit apartment building currently owned by Transitional Housing Services that is the site of a major reconstruction project being undertaken this year.

The Affordable Homes Group is pledged to continue the physical improvement of the properties and the quality of service which the tenants of Homes of Hope both expect and deserve.

Immediately upon the transfer of the units, the staff at AHG began working on repairing and renovating two vacant units, which are now occupied and serving as transitional housing.  We anticipate that we will be selling at least one of the units to its current tenant, as arranged by the former administration, leaving us with 20 remaining units for rental housing, transitional housing, and special needs housing.

We at AHG feel that our county suffers a great need for transitional housing, and that it is necessary to fill this need to help local individuals and families defeat homelessness.  And so we anticipate that as units become available from Homes of Hope, we will convert them to transitional housing residences to help fill this need.
